• Your cat(s) will probably be very nervous
about being in an enclosed area, and disoriented from anesthesia and
surgery. They may be grumpy, or very
reactive to noise, quick motions, bright lights, etc. Keep them
in a quiet, dark, warm place. Keep them separated from other pets
and children.
• Keep your cat(s) warm
the whole night after surgery.
They need to stay at 70
degrees or above. It will not be easy for him/her to keep its
temperature steady and warm after surgery, like they normally do.
• The cat(s) should be offered water and half of a
normal ration of wet food after they settle down back at your
place. If they finish the food quickly, offer another half ration
2 hours later.
The Next Day:
• Offer a full ration of wet or dry food for breakfast. Make sure clean water is available.
• Give the cat a chance to stay clean, warm and
dry. This can help limit activity, so the tissues will have
the best chance to heal quickly and without problems.
Important points to remember:
• All stitches are absorbable and do not need to be
removed. They can take up to a couple of months to completely
dissolve.
• Try to watch the cat for a week post-op if you can.
• Continue to offer food and water for them. They will still hunt..
Thank you for your extra effort in
helping our feral friends out—they do need all the kindness we can
offer them. It helps them, it helps future generations of cats,
and it helps our community!
